EFFIE
My name is Effie. I'm a 33-year-old songwriter, singer, rapper, and producer originally from The Bronx, New York, now residing in Kansas City.
Lately, I'm excited by the unknown—just letting life/God do his thing. I'm usually such a planner, but I feel like every time I have a plan, God laughs...in a good way. God always shows me something bigger and better, even if at the moment it doesn't feel so good because I was so set on my plan. Learning to just be more present has invited a lot of new excitement into my life.
The first time I remember feeling free is the first time I got on a stage to perform by myself. At that point in my life, I had only ever performed as a background vocalist here and there. It was an open mic just a little over a year ago. I don't remember the performance very vividly, but I'll never forget the feeling afterward. I just felt soooooo good. There's no other way to describe it, and I couldn't believe I had denied myself that experience for so long. I still can't believe it sometimes, thinking of who I was just three years ago—too shy, scared—but onstage, I felt like the person I always wanted to be and knew I could be. I haven't looked back since.
I have been writing for so many years but never shared any of my personal work until last year. So I'm working on pacing myself with releases, instead of just putting so many albums out back to back. My album, Curve My Enthusiasm, is so special to me that I'm going to release a deluxe version in January with 4 additional tracks and videos, including some exciting collaborations. I have also been writing for other artists, so you'll be able to hear some of those releases soon, as well!
